This rainbow trout swam its way onto the page in a burst of color and quiet movement. I had so much fun playing with the shifting tones… soft pinks, cool greens, flashes of silver.. trying to capture that magical, underwater shimmer.
There’s something peaceful about a fish like this… steady, calm, just existing in its own world. I wanted this piece to feel like a little window into that.
Drawn by hand using Stablio chalk pastels pencils on archival Pastelmat paper, with lots of layering, blending, and a bit of letting the colors surprise me along the way.
